The price gap is the first thing Outback owners notice, and it is widest on the big parts. A new engine or CVT from a dealer can cost more than an older Outback is worth, which is how a repairable car ends up in the scrap yard. A used OEM engine or transmission from a donor Outback lets you fix the car for a fraction of that.
OEM matters more on an Outback than on many cars because Subaru changed so much from one generation to the next. A used OEM part was built for your engine family in the first place, so the mounts, connectors and calibration already match. Dealer stock for early parts also thins out as cars age, so a used part is often the simplest way to find an exact match for a 2000 to 2012 Outback.
The checks matter just as much. Our parts specialists inspect each part for visible damage, cracks and leaks, test it for function, and only add parts from low-mileage vehicles to our inventory. Before a part ships, it goes through a 24-hour pre-shipment inspection as a second check, and we verify it against your VIN. Every part is covered by a 30-day warranty.
We ship across the United States and Canada, to your door or straight to your mechanic. Reusing a sound part also keeps a working component out of the scrap pile, which is a small bonus on a car that many owners plan to keep for a very long time.
Most Requested Used Subaru Outback Parts
These are the Outback parts people ask us for most, along with the details that decide whether a part fits your car. If yours isn’t listed, the parts locator tool covers the rest of the Outback.
Engines
Engine assemblies lead the list, and fitment follows the generations above. A 2003 EJ251, a 2009 EJ255 turbo, a 2012 EJ253 and a 2015 FB25 are four different engines. On the naturally aspirated EJ25 engines in 2000 to 2009 Outbacks, head gasket condition is the first thing buyers ask about. Some early FB25 engines have also drawn reports of oil consumption, so mileage and service history matter on 2013 and newer cars. Browse used Subaru Outback engines or call a specialist to match one to your VIN.
CVT and automatic transmissions
CVT replacement is a common repair on Outbacks from 2010 on. Valve body problems and shudder are well documented on the early units, and Subaru extended CVT coverage to 10 years or 100,000 miles on 2010 to 2015 Legacy and Outback models. Many of those cars have aged out of that coverage, which is usually when a used transmission becomes the practical fix. The 2010 to 2014 3.6R used a five-speed automatic, and earlier Outbacks used conventional automatics and manuals. Give us your VIN and we will confirm the right unit.
ABS modules and control modules
ABS pump modules, engine control modules and body control units are the electronics we get asked for most on Outbacks. Part numbers change by year, trim, engine and transmission, and some modules need programming after installation. These are the parts where VIN verification matters most.
Headlights, tail lights and body parts
Headlight and tail light assemblies, bumper covers, fenders, mirrors and doors all vary by trim and facelift. Many later Outbacks use LED headlight units, which cost a lot new, so a used assembly in good shape saves real money. We check body parts against your VIN and send photos of the actual part.
Axles, wheel hubs and steering
CV axles, hub assemblies, spindles, steering racks and steering columns. Hub bearings that start humming at highway speed are a regular repair on Outbacks built since 2010, and used OEM hubs and axles are an easy way to handle it.
Suspension
Struts, springs, lower control arms, stabilizer bars and bushings. Worn bushings and rust are the usual reasons suspension parts get replaced on older Outbacks, and used OEM control arms and struts fit the way the originals did.
Climate control and emissions parts
AC compressors, condensers, blower motors, radiators and evaporative emissions components. A check engine light with an EVAP code such as P0455 on a 2010 or newer Outback often traces back to the purge solenoid or the charcoal canister.
If the part you need isn’t on this page, use the parts locator tool, enter your year, model and part, and it will search our network of Subaru salvage yards and junkyards across the United States and Canada to track it down for you at no additional cost. Warehouse Network
BackToRoad Auto Parts has developed a warehouse network designed to give Subaru owners quick access to the Subaru Outback parts they need. We work with facilities in multiple locations to keep a wide inventory, so whether you need a front bumper from a 2016 model or a low-mileage Subaru Outback engine from 2020, we can usually locate and ship it without delay.
Every part that enters our warehouse goes through a basic inspection process. Items are cleaned, labeled, and catalogued so they’re ready for quick and accurate delivery. For larger components like engines and transmissions, we document the mileage and condition and ensure any known issues are disclosed.
Because we pull parts from a wide geographic region, we can offer more options across more trims and years. That’s especially useful for older Outbacks or unique model years that may not be well-supported elsewhere. You don’t have to settle for mismatched parts or gamble on a listing that lacks details. Our team is here to help confirm compatibility, locate the part closest to you, and get it shipped with care.
