How to replace a power steering pump?

Replacing a power steering pump will cost you somewhere around $300-$400 which is the cost for labor. You can also replace the power steering pump on your own if you want to cut down on the professional charges. Replacing a power steering pump will only take you somewhere from 3-5 hours.   

The first step would be to gather the equipment and materials needed and to disconnect the battery cables and the power steering belt. After this, you should remove the old power steering fluid. Use a drain pan for this. Take off the power steering pressure and return the hoses from the old power steering pump. Next, you should remove the pulley and bolts that connect the power steering pump to the car. Now you can remove the old power steering pump and set it aside. 

Take the new power steering pump and place it into the bracket. Tighten it into place using the bolts. Next, install the pulley using the pulley press. Screw-in the hub press through the bolt and grease up the pump hub and pulley. Replace the pulley on the hub by lining up the power steering pulley and press. Next, attach the air conditioning and serpentine belts and make sure that they are lined up properly.
